Matt's Story

Matthew Mole, president and founder of Vermont Organic Fiber Co., has been developing supplies and markets for certified organic wool since 1998. He has developed and coordinated supplies of organic wool, worked with processors to meet the special handling and processing requirements to attain organic certification. As co-chair of the Organic Trade Association's Organic Fiber Council Steering Committee, he has successfully raised awareness within the textile and apparel industries to the availability of and markets for certified organic wool. As the North American Organic Fiber Processing Standards were developed, he made sure that wool was fully considered. Matt has served as chairman of the Fiber Council's Organic Wool Subcommittee since 2000, and in 2001 initiated the first North American Organic Wool Production Survey.

Matt grew up on farm where sheep were raised. He earned his degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Vermont.
